You can manually discover PostgreSQL instances on demand. By default, PostgreSQL instances are automatically discovered every 24 hours. Instances are also automatically discovered when the Communications Service (GxCVD) is restarted (for example, after a computer reboot).
When you discover instances, the newly discovered instances are assigned a plan as follows:

If the server is installed from the Command Center, then the newly discovered instances inherit the plan of the server.

If the server is not installed from the Command Center, then you must set a plan for the newly discovered instances.

You cannot automatically discover PostgreSQL instances on Solaris and AIX.

The pg_config binary must be present in the PostgreSQL bin directory for the Auto Discover instance to work.
Procedure

From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Databases.
The database Overview page appears.

Go to the Instances tab.

In the upper-right corner of the page, click the ellipsis icon, and then click Discover instances.
The Discover instances dialog box appears.

From the Database engine list, select PostgreSQL.

From the Server name list, select the server to discover an instance for.

Click Discover now.
The instance is discovered and added to the Commvault software. In Commvault, the name for the instance is server name_port number on which the server is running.

Click the instance.
The instance page appears.

In the General tile, click Edit.
The Edit PostgreSQL instance page appears.

Expand Connection details section and enter the password for the PostgreSQL user account.

Click Update.
