Recovery Target Options for Google Cloud Platform

When you configure a recovery target for Google Cloud Platform, provide Google Cloud Platform-specific values for the destination site.

  • Select vendor: Select Google Cloud Platform.

  • Application type: Replication is selected automatically.

  • Recovery target name: Enter a descriptive name for the destination (for example, Auto Recovery site 1).

  • Destination hypervisor: Select the destination project.

  • Access node: Select an access node or an access node group to use for replication to the destination project.

    Note

The access node group must contain Google Cloud Platform (GCP) proxies because you can perform restore/replication operation using GCP proxies only.

To restore multiple instances or VMs simultaneously, select Automatic to distribute the workload (instances or VMs) in the auto recovery job across the access nodes that are assigned for the destination hypervisor. This option is available for operations both from streaming backups or IntelliSnap backup copies.

First, the instances are assigned to the access nodes by a zone match. If access nodes are not available in the same zone, then the instances are assigned to access nodes in the same region. If there is no zone or region match, the access nodes are assigned using the round-robin method.

If you select an access node group to restore VMs, the Commvault software distributes the workload (instances or VMs) in the restore job across the access nodes (also called proxies) that are available in the access node group.

  • Users and user groups: Select items from the list and click OK to associate users or user groups with the recovery target.

  • Instance display name: Select Prefix or Suffix, and then enter a text string that will be appended to the original display name to create new destination instance names.

  • Primary zone: Select a primary zone for the disk.

  • Secondary zone: Select a secondary zone for the disk. This option is applicable only if the source instance has a regional disk configured.

  • External IP: To assign a public IP address to the instances, select this check box.

  • Users and user groups: Select the users and/or user groups that can use this recovery target.

  • Sole-tenant nodes: Click Browse to select the nodes or node groups you want to be associated with the restored instance.

Note: The Node affinity dialog box lists all available node groups. However, you can only select the node groups that are supported for the specified machine type.

  • Custom metadata: Type the custom or predefined key-value pairs associated with the scripts you want to run when the instance restores.

The replicated VM will have the key-value pairs in the Custom metadata section on the VM instance details page on the destination VM.

Override Options

  • Override recovery target options of virtual machines: To change the destination settings for a specific instance, move the toggle key to the right, under Recovery target configuration, select an instance, and then click Override recovery target options.

You can enter override settings for one instance at a time.

The Edit virtual machine dialog box appears.

    Enter the following information:

    • Instance display name: Enter the display name for the destination instance.

You can only change this value when adding a new instance.

    • Primary zone: Select the zone in which the replicated disk is created.

You can only change this value when adding a new instance.

    • Secondary zone: Select the secondary zone in which the replicated disk is created.

You can only change this value when adding a new instance.

    • Machine type: Select a Google Cloud Platform machine type.

    • Network interface: Select one of the available network interfaces for the instance.

      Note

Static IP addresses from a source instance are not recovered to the destination instance.

    • External IP: To assign a public IP address to Google Cloud Platform instances during recovery, select this check box.

  • Sole-tenant nodes: Click Browse to select the nodes or node groups you want to be associated with the restored instance.

    Note

The Node affinity dialog box lists all available node groups.
