The Sybase High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HADR) environment consists of primary and standby node (also referred as companion node). The data is continually replicated from the source (primary) node to the target (standby) node. If the failure happens to the primary node, then the standby node is immediately ready to take over for the primary node.
The backup and restore operations always require primary node in the HADR deployment.
