Backups for Raw Device Map (RDM) Disks on an SAP HANA Database

Updated

You can perform an IntelliSnap backup of Raw Device Map (RDM) disks on an SAP HANA database that is available in a virtual machine in physical compatibility mode.

Verify that at least one of the following conditions are met:

  • The client computer uses iSCSI initiator to mount snapshots

  • The physical proxy server uses Fibre Channel to mount snapshots

IntelliSnap backup of RDM disks is not supported for Hitachi Vantara arrays using HDvM engine.

In Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) configurations, you can configure LUNs on the source computer. The iSCSI works like the Fibre Channel (FC) and you can mount LUNs on the source or proxy client computers. The proxy can be a virtual machine.

If the Commvault software does not pick up the iSCSI, set the sSNAP_IsISCSI additional setting. When it detects the FC adaptor, the Commvault software uses a FC adaptor to mount snapshots in a Windows or UNIX configuration. Set the sSNAP_IsISCSI additional setting to use iSCSI even when a FC adaptor is detected.
