Configuring Auditing and Alert Notifications

Updated

As users add more files to their Edge Drive and share the data with multiple users, it is important to have a complete record of all the activities performed by each user on these files. You can now allow end users to view the activities performed on files in their Edge Drive and Shares, and also send alert notifications to subscribed share users if there are any activities on a share.

The audit feature displays the activities performed on a file or folder in Edge Drive or shares created from Edge Drive or a Collaborative share. Auditing is performed for the following operations in Edge Drive or shares:

  • Create, rename, move, download, or delete a folder or file.

  • Upload a file.

  • Edit a file.

  • Create, update, or delete a private or a public share.

  • Put back a file from Trash, or empty the Trash.

The audit feature logs the activities based on user interaction. For example, if a user selects multiple files for download, auditing logs the activity only for the selected files. Similarly, if the user downloads a folder containing multiple files, auditing logs a single activity for the folder.

Before You Begin

Review the following requirements:

  • Verify that you have Service Pack 10 or later installed on your CommServe and its associated servers.

  • Verify that your Edge Drive is configured using a standalone Index Server. Edge Drive Auditing feature is not supported when you use a Cloud Index Server.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers.

  2. Right-click the Edge Drive Client, and then click Properties.

  3. To configure for collaborative shares, right-click the ObjectStore Client, and then click Properties.

  4. The Client Computer Properties dialog box appears.

  5. To enable auditing, select the Audit Drive operations check box.

  6. To enable alert notifications, select the Enable notification for Shares check box.

  7. Note: For new Edge Drive and ObjectStore clients, these options are selected by default.

  8. Click OK.
