Convert the client computer to an Amazon EC2 instance.
Procedure
-
Log on to the CommCell Console.
-
From the CommCell Browser, right-click client computer, click All Tasks > Virtualize Me > Amazon.
-
In the Select Recovery Points step, select the backup set which has block-level system state backups.
Note
-
Ensure that the block-level backups are enabled at the subclient level.
-
By default, the latest data and configuration of the client computer, backed up by the default backup set, will be used to create the instance.
-
-
Click Next.
-
In the Virtual Machine Location step, do the following:
-
In the Client box, specify the name of the AWS virtualization client to be used for the Virtualize Me operation.
-
In the Availability Zone box, select the availability zone for the destination instance.
-
By default, the Instance Type box is set as Auto-select. The software creates the destination instance with appropriate configurations. If you want to use a different instance type, you can select the appropriate one.
-
In the VM Name box, enter name for the Amazon EC2 instance.
-
Specifying the Guest credentials is not mandatory. If no credentials are provided, the Windows Mini-Setup (Sysprep) creates a temporary account to execute the recovery operations. After completion of the process, this account is removed. To use a specific user account or disable the Windows Mini-Setup (Sysprep) from running during the recovery process, select the Guest credentials check box and provide the credentials for that user account.
-
-
Click Next.
-
In the Review Recovery Options step, do the following:
-
In the General tab, specify the user account to be used to perform the Virtualize Me operation:
-
By default, the Use the currently logged in user account option is selected. The user account currently logged in to the CommCell Console will be used.
-
If you want to use an Active Directory user account, then select the Use a different user account option and enter the credentials for the user account.
-
-
In the Configuration tab, select the network interface configuration and appropriate security groups. The instance will be created with this configuration.
-
In the Disk Configuration tab, review the available disk configuration. You can select the disk volumes that you want to be available on the destination instance.
-
In the Restore Options tab, you can do the following:
-
Optional: To add the destination instance to a domain, click Change and enter the domain credentials.
-
Optional: To skip the Windows Mini-Setup (Sysprep) as part of the recovery operation, select the Do not use Windows Mini-Setup (SysPrep) check box.
Note
If you did not specify the Guest credentials in the Virtual Machine Location tab, the Do not use Windows Mini-Setup (SysPrep) check box is disabled as the Windows Mini-Setup (Sysprep) is enforced during the recovery process.
-
-
In the Advanced tab, you can do the following:
-
To clone the source client, select the Clone Machine check box and then specify the New Client name and Host name values.
-
To use another MediaAgent than the one used to perform the system state backup, select the Use different MediaAgent check box and then select the appropriate MediaAgent from the dropdown.
-
-
-
Click Next.
-
In the Submit Job/Alert step, specify the job schedule, and then click Finish.
-
To track the progress of the virtualization job, go to the Job Controller window of the CommCell Console. You cannot suspend or resume the job.
-
After the Virtualize Me job completes, when you power ON the source client:
-
If you have not selected the Clone Machine check box, in the Review Recovery Options tab, then the newly created instance takes over the source client.
-
If you have selected the Clone Machine check box to clone the source client, the new instance runs simultaneously with the source client.
-
-
To view the job details from the Admin Job History, right-click <CommServe> and navigate to View > Admin Job History.
-
Select Virtualize Me under Job Type and then click OK.
