Creating a Subclient to Back Up Oracle RMAN Log Files

Updated

You can back up Oracle RMAN log files so they are retained for a longer time than they would be if kept in the job results directory.

RMAN log files are written to the job results directory on the client machine. Each Oracle backup and restore job creates a separate directory and saves the log files in that directory. By default, job results are pruned from the client computer after 7 days. For more information on the pruning of files in the job results directory, see Pruning Job Results.

If you want to retain RMAN log files for a longer time, you can use the Commvault file system backup capability to back them up.

Procedure

  1. On the client machine, create a new subclient under the default backupset.

  2. To define the content to back up, add the job results directory:

    • On Windows, the job results path is: C:\Program Files\Commvault\ContentStore\iDataAgent\JobResults\CV_JobResults\2\0

    • On Unix, the job results path is: /opt/commvault/iDataAgent/jobResults/CV_JobResults/2/0/

  3. To define the required retention, select a storage policy, and then save the configuration.

  4. To run regular backups at the desired interval, use a schedule policy, or schedule the backups on the new subclient.
