Deconfiguring a Tape Library

You can deconfigure a tape library from the CommCell Console. Deconfiguring a library disables software communications between the MediaAgent and the device. Deconfiguring a library also releases the license associated with the library.

The tape library can also be deconfigured from the Expert Storage Configuration tool. For more information, see Deconfiguring Libraries and Drives.

The tape library can also be deconfigured through the command line operation. For more information, see Delete a Library.

Before You Begin

  • Ensure that the tape library is not in use. Verify on the Job Controller and kill any data protection jobs that are using the tape library.

  • Ensure that the media is not mounted on the drives.

Important:

Follow the guidelines available in the Deconfiguring Libraries and Drives section.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand to Storage Resources > Libraries > Tape Library.

  2. Right-click the appropriate Tape Library and click Deconfigure.

  3. Click Yes in the confirmation box.

    • If there is no assigned media, the library will be deconfigured and deleted.

    • If there is assigned media, the library will be marked deconfigured.

      • After it is marked deconfigured, right-click the library and click Delete to delete the library.

The assigned media will be available under Orphaned Media after the tape library is deleted.
