Global Repository Cell (GRC) - Troubleshooting

Updated

Barcode collision

Cause

Existence of two tapes with same barcode.

Solution

Ensure that you check the barcodes associated with the tapes in the CommCell to make sure that there are no duplicate barcodes across all CommCells being imported. If you find two tapes that have the same bar code, one of them needs to be changed.

Duplicate client names

Symptom

The following error message and monitoring job fails when clients are with same name on the PodCell and the destination CommCell.

Following clients are already present in CommServe [' FileSystem01, FileSystem02 '] with different GUID. Please change the clients name either on source CommServe or destination CommServe

Solution

Change the client name on PodCell or destination CommCell and then run the monitor job. To change the name:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, navigate to Client Computers.

  2. Right-click the appropriate Client Computer, and then click Properties.

Client Computer Properties dialog box appears.

  3. Click Edit.

Edit Client Name dialog box appears.

  4. In the Client Name box, type appropriate name for the client, and then click OK.

  5. Click OK.

Communications Service failed to start

Symptom

The monitoring job might fail or sent into a pending state with following error message:

Communications Service failed to start

Cause

The host name of the PodCell provided during setup monitoring was incorrect or PodCell CommServe machine name is changed.

Solution

Re-register the PodCell and provide correct host name of the PodCell CommServe. For more information, see Re-Registering PodCell.

Failure to get mount path details during restore

Cause

When you import any mount paths from the PodCell to destination CommCell, the MediaManager on the destination MediaAgent creates registry entries for each mount paths. These entries are created to check the deduplicated data across the mount paths. The time required by MediaManager to create the entries depends upon the value of the parameter Interval (Minutes) between disk space updates. When you import any mount paths to destination CommCell, this parameter is set to its default value. If you perform a restore operation before creation of the registry entries, the restore operation may fail.

Solution

You can check the value of the parameter as follows:

  1. On the ribbon in the CommCell Console, click the Control Panel. The Control Panel dialog box appears.

  2. Click Media Management under Storage section. The Media Management Configuration dialog box appears.

  3. Click the Services Configuration tab and check the value of the parameter Interval (Minutes) between disk space updates.

After you import any mount paths in the destination CommCell, perform restore operations after the time interval specified for this parameter.

If you do not want to modify the value of the parameter Interval (Minutes) between disk space updates and want to run the restore operations immediately, you must restart the MediaAgent services. The required registry entries will be created when you restart the MediaAgent services.
