Cloud providers charge you whenever you perform operation that move data out from cloud storage. Enterprises with large amounts of data in cloud storage will end-up with significant egress costs.
Here are some ways to reduce cloud egress cost using the Commvault Cloud Storage:
-
Use an on-premise storage (using HyperScale or disk storage) for primary backup copies and move data for long term storage to cloud storage. For more information on developing a strategy for managing data on your cloud storage, see Cloud Storage Building Block Guide.
-
Do not use the life-cycle policies provided by the cloud provider to move data to the archive storage tiers. Use a selective copy or DASH copy operation to make copies of the data in the archive storage tiers, preferably for long-term retention.
-
While making copies, if you have both the primary and secondary copies in the cloud, use Power Management with Cloud MediaAgent to perform the Auxiliary copy operation to the secondary copy. For more information, see Cloud MediaAgent Power Management.
