Relocating the SQL Server TempDb

Updated

On a Windows CommServer or a Linux CommServer, you can move the SQL Server TempDb from its existing directory location to another directory location or local SSD.

Before You Begin

  • On a Linux CommServer, verify that the owner and group of the new directory is set to the mssql account.

  • If you are relocating the TemDb to SSD or partition, verify that the total size is at least 100 GB.

Procedure

  1. Execute the SQL Server Relocate TempDb workflow.

For information about executing workflows, see Running Workflows from the CommCell Console.

The SQL Server Relocate TempDb Options dialog box appears.

  2. In the Input new TempDb data and log file directory path box, enter the new directory path for the SQL Server TempDb.

    Examples:

    Windows path, T:\temDb

    Linux path, /tempDb

  3. Stop the Commvault Services.

  4. Restart the SQL Server Service.
