Replication for Storage Arrays

With the Commvault software, you can create a replica copy of the primary snapshot copy of the local array on a remote array.

You can configure the replication feature with the following vendors, modes, and type of replication.

You cannot re-copy snapshot primary copies or snapshot replica copies.

In synchronous mode, the replica copy is application-consistent, except for the Microsoft Hyper-V Agent. In asynchronous mode, the replica copy is crash-consistent.

For the Microsoft Hyper-V Agent, the replica copy is crash-consistent in synchronous and asynchronous modes.

For VMAX3 and VMAX All Flash, the replica copy is crash-consistent in synchronous and asynchronous modes.

You cannot perform revert operations for the replica copy.

Dell PowerStore

  • You cannot perform revert operations on replica copies.

  • Volume Group Replication is not supported.

The replica copy is crash-consistent.

ShadowImage (SI) and Thin Image (TI) of replicated volumes, Dynamic Provisioning Volumes (DP-VOLs) and external volumes (ELUN) are supported.

You cannot use the revert operation on either the snapshot copy or on the replica copy.

You cannot create a snapshot of a clone.

The primary snapshot and the replica copy are application-consistent.

You cannot perform revert operations for the primary snapshot copies or replica copies.

You can replicate snapshots between HPE Primera and HPE 3PAR StoreServ and vice-versa.

You can perform synchronous replication.

From FR 11.20 you can perform synchronous and asynchronous periodic replication.

You cannot perform revert operations for replica copies.
For the Microsoft Hyper-V Agent, the snapshots that are replicated on the target array are crash-consistent. The primary snapshots are application-consistent.

Note

  • You can use the fan-out configuration with the NetApp storage array.

  • For NetApp FlexGroup volumes, you cannot use the Commvault software with OCUM-based snapshot replication.

  • For NetApp Open Replication, you can use NetApp Flex Group volumes for two node replication topologies only, for example, either Primary to Mirror, or Primary to Vault. This limitation is because ONTAP does not support three-node replication and does not support fan-out topologies for Flex Group volumes.

*NetApp with SnapVault SnapMirror OCUM-based snapshot replication is not supported for Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP.
