Upgrade Software

Use this dialog box to update software on one or more client computers in your CommCell environment.

Note

If the CommServe server or the Web Server need to be rebooted during an update, the system will automatically manage the reboot process.

Reboot the agents if required

Select to automatically reboot the client or MediaAgent computer during the platform release installation process. The Commvault software determines whether the reboot is required.

Run Database Maintenance (includes checkdb and reindexall)

This option applies to the CommServe computer and clients that have server packages installed, such as the Web Server and Workflow Engine. The software performs database maintenance only during the Feature Release installations and skips for Maintenance Release installations.

Install Maintenance Release Only

This option installs maintenance releases as follows:

  • The latest maintenance release will be installed on the CommServe computer using the software that is currently in the cache. If there is nothing in the cache, the system will automatically download the latest available maintenance release and then push it to the CommServe computer.

  • For a client whose current platform release is older than the platform release that is installed on the CommServe computer, the maintenance release that is available in the cache for the client's current platform release will be installed on the client. If there is nothing in the cache, you must first download the maintenance release.

  • For a client whose current platform release is the same as the CommServe computer's platform release, the maintenance release that is currently in the cache will be installed. If there is nothing in the cache, the system will automatically download the maintenance release that is installed on CommServe computer, and then push it to the clients.

  • You can push to a client a maintenance release that is higher than the maintenance release that is installed on the CommServe computer. To do this, you must first download the maintenance release to the cache.

**Install Windows OS updates (if applicable) **

Select this option if you also want to install Windows OS updates when you install Commvault platform release or maintenance release on a backup appliance, CommServe server, Web Server, or MediaAgent client.

Note

Install MS SQL Server updates (if applicable)

Select this option if you also want to install MS SQL Server updates when you install Commvault platform release updates on a backup appliance, CommServe server, or Web Server client.

Note

Auto Install passive nodes

Select this option if you install the platform release on the CommServe computer that is configured in a cluster environment. After the platform release is installed on the active node, the installation program automatically continues to update each passive node.

Auto reboot passive nodes if required

When you select this option, the passive nodes that require a restart after the platform release installation are restarted automatically. If you do not select this option, you must remember to restart the required passive nodes manually.

User Name

The user name of the domain administrator account which has access to all cluster nodes.

Password

The password associated with the domain administrator account.

Confirm Password

Retype the password for confirmation.

Save As Script

Click to open the Save As Script dialog box, which allows you to save this operation and the selected options as a script file (in XML format). The script can later be run from the Command Line Interface using qoperation execute command.

When you save an operation as a script, each option in the dialog box has a corresponding XML element in the script file. When you run the script, you can modify the value in any of these XML elements.
