Verifying Registration for a VMware Linux Access Node

If the Linux access node is visible in the CommCell Console, you do not need to perform this procedure.

Procedure

  1. Turn ON the VM and log in.

  2. Verify that the VM is displayed in the CommCell Browser. If not, the VM might have failed to register with the vCenter.

  3. Before registering or re-registering the Linux access node:

    1. Stop services on the Linux access node.

    2. If there is a previously registered virtual machine client with the same name in the CommCell Console, delete the client to revoke the certificate for the previous registration.

  4. To register the Linux access node:

    1. Open a command line window on the VM.

    2. Go to the /etc/ folder.

    3. Enter the following command (the command can be found in /etc/ ):

      ./init_clientsc
  5. If the VM is still not displayed in the CommCell Browser after a short time interval, verify the connection to the vCenter and run the /var/log/init_client.log command again.

  6. Verify connectivity between the CommServe system, the proxy, and machine where the Access Node and MediaAgent (OVA) is deployed.

  7. If incorrect information is entered for the OVF template deployment (for example, a CS user name with insufficient privileges), the /var/log/init_client.log file on the Linux access node might include the following lines:

Client failed to register. Please view /var/log/commvault/SimCallWrapper.log for more details.

    Note

The init_client.log file is in the /var/log/ directory on the access node. All the other log files can be found in the /var/log/commvault/Log_Files/ unless you specified a different log file folder during installation.

Perform the following additional steps in the vSphere Client:

    1. Turn OFF the access node.

    2. Go to Edit Settings to modify the properties.

    3. On the vApp Options tab in the vSphere Web Client (or Options tab in the vSphere Client), verify and modify the OVA properties.

    4. Turn ON the access node.

If the modified properties are correct, the OVA registration will be successful.
