Virtual Machine Clients and Instances

Updated

When you perform a backup operation for a VM-centric virtualization client, the operation creates a CommCell Console client for each discovered VM.

You can choose whether to display VMs in the CommCell Browser.

Virtualization Clients

Virtualization clients that include subclients for backups of multiple VMs for a vCenter have the following structure in the CommCell Browser:

Client Computers > virtualization_client > Hypervisor > defaultBackupSet > default (subclient)

Note

For VMware, if you need to change the configuration for an existing virtualization client, modify the VMware instance instead of creating a new virtualization client that includes the same VMs.

VM Clients

VM clients have the following structure in the CommCell Browser:

Client Computers > vm_client > VMInstance > defaultBackupSet > default (subclient)

If the same VM is backed up by different virtualization clients, the VM client includes an additional backup set named defaultBackupSet_virtualization_client_name for the additional virtualization client.
