Set Up a Client Computer
The client computer is the computer that you want to convert into a virtual machine. To set up the client computer, use the following steps:
-
Verify that the computer meets the minimum requirements specified in System Requirements.
You cannot convert the Windows computer into a virtual machine when:
-
The computer has Windows operating system installed on a disk other than its first disk.
-
The computer has Windows operating system installed on a drive other than the C drive.
-
-
Install the Windows File System Agent on your client computer. For more information, see Preinstallation Checklist for the Windows File System Agent.
Install the Windows File System Agent by using the installation method that is most appropriate for your environment. For instructions, see Installation Methods.
Perform a System State Backup of the Client Computer
Perform a system state backup of your client computer. For more information, see Configuring System State Backups for the Windows File System Agent.
Remember:
-
When you perform a backup of a Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1 client, ensure that you enable the Administrator's account.
You cannot perform the virtualize client computer if the administrator's account is not enabled while performing the backup.
-
Do not filter system state components, files or directories that are required to turn on the computer.
-
Do not attach more than 100 disks to the client computer. If the client computer has more than 100 disks attached, then the system state backup fails with the following error:
VDS Wrapper list maximum count reached. No more space in the list.
Install the Virtual Server iDataAgent
-
Install the Virtual Server Agent for Hyper-V on a standalone Hyper-V server. For more information, see Getting Started (Microsoft Hyper-V).
-
Install the Virtual Server Agent for VMware on at least one client computer in the CommCell Console. For more information, see Getting Started (VMware).
Create a Virtualization Client
-
To create a new virtualization client for Microsoft Hyper-V, see Creating a Virtualization Client (Microsoft Hyper-V) for instructions.
-
To create a new virtualization client for VMware, see Creating a Virtualization Client for VMware for instructions.
Refresh Hyper-V Hosts or Datacenters
-
To refresh Hyper-V hosts, use the following steps:
-
Right-click the Hyper-V under the newly created virtual client, and point to All Tasks | Refresh Hyper-V Hosts.
-
In the Refresh Hyper-V Hosts dialog box, click OK.
-

Copy the 1-Touch ISO File
-
To download the 1-Touch ISO file, see Downloading the ISO file for 1-Touch for Windows.
-
Copy the downloaded ISO file to one of the ESX servers in the vCenter or an Hyper-V server based on your requirements.
-
Verify the connectivity between the CommServe and the vCenter or the Hyper-V server in which you want to create the virtual machine.
-
Copy the ISO file of the boot CD Image to any datastore on the ESX server or the Hyper-V server in which you want to create the virtual machine.
-
