Configure disaster recovery backups for a Kubernetes cluster

To set up disaster recovery backups for a Kubernetes cluster, add a Kubernetes cluster with etcd backups enabled and add an application group that includes the applications to recover. Then, to immediately prepare a disaster recovery backup, manually back up the application group.

To prepare for disaster recovery backups for a Kubernetes cluster, follow these steps:

  1. Add the cluster. If you are using existing cluster, then manually enable the etcd backups. For more information, see Enabling Kubernetes etcd Key Value Store Backups.

    Important

The etcd protection toggle must be enabled for the cluster.

  2. Add an application group that includes the Kubernetes applications.

    Important

When you add the VM group, you select a server plan that specifies the frequency, retention, and storage location for scheduled backups. Selecting a server plan that stores the backups in a location where you can use them for off-site recovery to another cluster is crucial.

  3. To immediately run a disaster recovery backup, manually back up the application group.
