You can perform an unplanned failover operation for an entire replication group to make the destination VMs active in an emergency situation. Only VMs that are eligible fail over. After a replication group failover, replication operations are disabled for the VMs that failed over. You can perform a replication group failback operation to return replication operations to all source sites in the replication group.
Before You Begin
Create a continuous replication group.
Note
You cannot customize IP address settings for VMs with encrypted disks. If you configure custom IP address settings for a replication group that includes VMs with encrypted disks, failover operations fail for those VMs.
Procedure
-
From the navigation pane, go to Auto Recovery > Replication groups.
The Replication groups page appears.
-
Under Group name, click a replication group.
The Overview tab of the replication group page appears.
-
In the upper-right area of the page, click Failover, and then select Unplanned failover.
The Unplanned failover dialog box appears.
-
Click Yes.
The failover occurs to the most recent recovery point.
Results
-
Operations move to the destination VMs.
-
If errors occur during an unplanned failover, the job will try to complete.
