Applies to: Windows operating systems
You can secure files on your laptop by locking them from any web browser using the Web Console. Before you can open and read the contents of a locked file, the file must be unlocked by entering a passkey or by connecting to the Commvault environment. You can unlock individual files or unlock all of the files within a folder.
Before You Begin
-
Your administrator must enable DLP for your user group. For more information, see Enabling Data Loss Prevention for all Users in a Plan.
-
Create a DLP passkey before you lock items from the Web Console. If you lock items before creating a DLP passkey, you can only unlock the files when your laptop connects to the Commvault environment.
Procedure
-
Log on to the Web Console.
The My Applications page appears.
-
Click My Data.
The Computers page appears.
-
Click Settings for the laptop where you want to lock files.
The laptop properties page appears.
-
In the Data Encryption section, next to Files and Folders to Encrypt, click Add.
The Files and Folders to Encrypt dialog box appears.
-
Define the files and folders to lock:
-
In the Include Files/Folders section, click the Browse Paths (+) button to browse the laptop file system.
You can also type a path.
Note
You may lock folders within your system drive, but do not select the root folder of your system drive or the folder where the Commvault software is installed. Items in the Content Library do not support locking.
-
After the paths are added, click Include Files/Folders.
-
-
Define the files and folders to exclude (these files and folders will not be locked):
-
In the Exclude Files/Folders section, click the Browse Paths (+) button to browse the laptop file system.
You can also type a path. You can include wildcards in the path to exclude file types. For example, entering \*.txt excludes all text files from locking.
-
After the paths are added, click Exclude Files/Folders.
-
-
Click Save.
