Before you configure Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF) Metro, verify that your environment meets the system requirements.
Storage Arrays
You can use the following storage arrays with SRDF/Metro:
-
Dell EMC PowerMAX
-
VMAX All Flash
-
VMAX3
Snapshot Engines
The Dell EMC TimeFinder SnapVX and Dell EMC TimeFinder SnapVX(SYMCLI) are the IntelliSnap engines that run backups for SRDF/Metro devices.
Configure the array software for the SRDF/Metro configuration using the Dell EMC documentation.
To verify if SRDF/Metro configuration is correct, run the following command and check if pair state is in Active state (For example, ActiveBias, ActiveActive).
#symrdf -sid symmetrix_id list -rdf_metro
Firmware
Install the firmware HYPERMAX OS 5977.691.684 or a more recent version on both local and remote arrays.
Software
If you use a dedicated Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) control host, then install the EMC SMI-S provider (Solution Enabler 8.1 or later) on the SMI-S control host. The EMC SMI-S provider is built-in in the Dell EMC PowerMAX storage array, so you do not need to install it.
