Racking and Cabling the Remote Office Appliance RO1100


  • Network cabling is not included with the appliance. Please gather and run all needed cables before setting up the appliance.
  • Optional Fibre Channel or SAS cables may be required for connecting to the Fibre Channel and SAS adapters if purchased separately.
  • Have a local console, VGA monitor and USB keyboard or console emulation capability available during install.

Racking the Appliance

Each appliance has the following rail kit included in the box. If hardware installation services were not purchased, rack the appliance using the included rail kit.

  1. Install the variable size rails into the rack by inserting the retaining bolts into the rear of the rack.
  2. To release the locking mechanism press the rear side of the toothed levers (1) together, and pull the hook (2) simultaneously as far as it will go. If the rail is difficult to access (such as installed in the rack) you can use the unlocking tool to release it.

  3. Identify the right and the left rail. (See the label on the rail.)
  4. Position the left rail on the rear left support upright (or on the support bracket) by inserting the retaining bolts.
  5. Position the left rail on the front left support upright so that the support upright resides between the two brackets of the rail.
    1. Press the left rail together.
    2. Move the left rail outwards until the designated position (grid of support upright) is reached.

      The black bolts must lock in the corresponding holes.

    3. Press the bracket backwards until the rail engages.
      • The toothed levers must be closed
      • The two black bolts must be flush with the bracket
    4. Check if the rail will be fixed by pressing the left rail backwards.
    5. Repeat this procedure to install the right rail.
    6. (Optional) Fix each rail with one earthquake security screw M5.
    7. Fully extend the rack rails until they lock in place. Be sure that the rack rails click into place so that they can no longer be moved.
    8. Now, at a slight angle, lower the server to the rear mounting point on the extended rails.
    9. Fold down the server, while pressing the rail to the server side. Ensure that all six rack mounting bolts are properly seated in the mounting points on the rails and that the locking bars engage.
    10. Now release the green locking mechanism of both rails.
    11. Finally push the server as far as it will go into the rack until the quick-release levers engage.
    12. Now we are ready to connect all cables to the server.

Cabling the Power supplies

The power supplies provide electrical power to the appliance. The appliance has two redundant power supplies which can be connected to two independent power sources.

The supplied cables will fit the power receptacles in typical enclosures for your country. You may need to provide different power cables if the PDU in your enclosure does not fit a C13 connection. All power supplies should be connected to a power source.

  1. Connect the first power supply (PSU) of each node to the first power source in the enclosure rack.
  2. Connect the second power supply (PSU) of each node to the second power source in the enclosure rack.

    The two 2.5 meter power cords that come with each of the three nodes will work with 115VAC or 250VAC and will plug into a C13 outlet on a Power Distribution Unit in the rack.

Cabling the Network

There are six 1 GbE network ports on the rear of the appliance for data access.These ports can be used to meet various network demands, such as when ingesting data, data recovery, and DASH copy.

IMPORTANT: The default 10 GB ports on a Commvault appliance only supports the optical or twinax copper SFP+ connections. Commvault appliances do NOT support RJ45 based connections without a separate adapter purchase. Before ordering, confirm the type of network connections needed for the setup.

  • The 1Gb Ethernet wrench port is connected to the iRMC (integrated Remote Management Console).
  • All data management tasks including backups and restores as well as Virtual Commserve connectivity are established through the 1GbE data ports. Bonding is also available on the appliance.
  • An optional dual port 10 GbE is also available.
  1. Connect the 1 GbE data network to your public or production (Data) network.
  2. Connect the 1GbE iRMC, or integrated Remote Management Console, to your management network. This can be connected to the same network as the data network if desired.

Optional 10GBASE-T RJ45 Copper Interfaces

The 10GBASE-T RJ45 SFP is not compatible with the 10Gb network adapters that come with the HyperScale appliances. (See figure below.) The optional 10GBASE-T RJ45 network adapters must be ordered separately.

Customers may request optional copper 10GBASE-T network adapters to replace the default SFP+ optical/twinax interfaces. The adapters must be ordered separately from Commvault.

In the HS1300 and HS3300 appliances, the SFP+ optical Network adapters must be removed and the 10GBASE-T RJ45 network adapters installed in the same slots in order to maintain the port naming.

In the RO1100 appliance, SFP+ or RJ45 network adapters can be ordered.
