Restoring a Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) Web Application

You can restore only the web application component, either to the same source client or to a new destination client.

To the Same Configuration

To restore a web application to the same client, complete the following steps:

  1. From the navigation pane, click Protect > Applications > SharePoint.

    The SharePoint servers page appears.

  2. Click a SharePoint server.

    The selected SharePoint server page appears.

  3. In the Contents section, click Databases.

    The Databases page appears.

  4. In the Subclient section, click a subclient that you want to restore.

    The subclient page appears.

  5. From the Subclients section, follow any one of these methods to perform a restore operation:
    • In the Restore column of the subclient for which you want to perform the restore operation, click Restore.
    • Click a subclient that you want to restore, and then, on the subclient page, click Restore.

    The Backup content page appears.

  6. Click Farm.
  7. From the upper-right of the page, select a backup to restore.
    • To use the most recent backup, click Show latest backups.
    • To use a backup from a specific date, click Show backups as of a specific date, select a date, and then select the backup.
  8. Select Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Web Application check box, and then click Restore.

    The Restore web applications page appears.

  9. From the Restore options list, select Web application.
  10. To change user account of the Web Application Pool account, in the Web application section, type the login name and the password.
  11. Click Restore.

To a New Configuration

To restore a web application to a different client, complete the following steps:

  1. From the navigation pane, click Protect > Applications > SharePoint.

    The SharePoint servers page appears.

  2. Click a SharePoint server.

    The selected SharePoint server page appears.

  3. In the Contents section, click Databases.

    The Databases page appears.

  4. In the Subclient section, click a subclient that you want to restore.

    The subclient page appears.

  5. From the Subclients section, follow any one of these methods to perform a restore operation:
    • In the Restore column of the subclient for which you want to perform the restore operation, click Restore.
    • Click a subclient that you want to restore, and then, on the subclient page, click Restore.

    The Backup content page appears.

  6. Click Farm.
  7. From the upper-right of the page, select a backup to restore.
    • To use the most recent backup, click Show latest backups.
    • To use a backup from a specific date, click Show backups as of a specific date, select a date, and then select the backup.
  8. Select Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Web Application check box, and then click Restore.

    The Restore web applications page appears.

  9. Specify how you want to restore the data:
    • Restore options: Select Web application.
    • SharePoint client: To restore data on a different SharePoint client, select a location.
  10. To change user account of the Web Application Pool account, in the Web application section, type the login name and the password.
  11. Click Restore.
