Back Up and Restore an Azure SQL Database Managed Instance
Commvault provides a solution that you can use to perform backup and restore operations on Azure SQL database managed instances. Only full backups are supported for Azure SQL Database Managed instances.
Important: Commvault software supports Microsoft Azure for public clouds only. Sovereign clouds, such as in Germany or China, are not supported. For more information, consult Microsoft documentation. For example, “App Service Regional Details”, https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/app-service/regional-details/.
When restoring a database protected by Transparent Data Encryption to an Azure SQL database managed instance, the corresponding certificate from the on-premises SQL Server needs to be migrated before the database restore operation.
For information on the configuration steps, see Azure SQL Database Managed Instance Configuration.
Perform a backup operation. For more information, see Backing Up a SQL Database Managed Instance on an Azure Cloud.
Backups for databases with service-managed transparent encryption is not supported. Databases with customer managed transparent encryption key can still be protected.
Determine your restore source and destination, and then perform one of the following restore operations:
- Restoring an Azure SQL Database Managed Instance from an Azure Cloud to Another Azure Cloud
- Migrating a SQL Database from an On-Premises SQL Server to an Azure SQL Database Managed Instance
