Getting Started with Amazon FSX for Windows File Server

To get started, you must review the Amazon FSx for Windows File Server features.

Step 1: Before You Begin

Step 2: Install the Windows File System Agent

Install the Windows File System Agent on EC2 instance or on the on-premise computer from where you can access the SMB shares.

Select the installation method that is most appropriate for your environment. For instructions, see Installation Methods.

Step 3: Prepare for Your First Backup and Restore

  1. Open the CommCell Console.
  2. Configure a Storage Device.

    You must install the MediaAgent to configure a storage device.

  3. Create a subclient for the local client computer and add the SMB share as a UNC path to the subclient content. For instructions, see Adding a UNC Path as Subclient Content.

    You can also create a network share client and then create a subclient under the Windows file system agent of the network share client. Use the following steps to create a network share client:

    1. On the CommCell Browser, right-click Client Computers, and then click New Client.

      The Add New Client dialog box appears.

    2. Under File System, click NAS/Network Share.
    3. Select the Network Share check box, and then select the Windows check box.
    4. In the Client Name box, enter the non-NDMP network share client name.
    5. In the Host Name box, enter the fully qualified non-NDMP network share client name/IP.
    6. Click OK.

    A pseudo network share client is created on the CommCell Console. For instructions on creating a subclient, see Adding a UNC Path as Subclient Content.

    Note: To add an access node for the network share subclient, select a computer from where you can access the SMB shares.
