Getting Started With Oracle Database Application Migration to an Amazon EC2 Instance

To migrate an Oracle database application to an Amazon EC2 instance, complete the following steps:

Step 1: Create an AWS Account

Create an Amazon EC2 account that contains an Amazon Machine Image (AMI). For more information, see Configuration for Oracle Database Application Migration to an Amazon EC2 Instance.

Step 2: Configure the Source Client

Complete the following tasks for the source Oracle client:

  1. Add the source client with Oracle and File System agent packages to the Command Center. For more information, see Adding a New Server.
  2. Run a full backup of the Oracle Database. For more information, see Performing Oracle Backups.
  3. Enable client data Collection on the source client

For more information, see Enable client data collection for Oracle database application migration.

Step 3: Create an Amazon Virtual Client

Add a new virtual client for the Amazon hypervisor. For more information, see Adding an Amazon Hypervisor.

Note: Use a Windows Server as the proxy for the virtual client. The proxy server must have the VSA agent installed and must be able to connect to the Amazon EC2 instance. You can also use the CommServe computer as the proxy server, if the CommServe has a VSA agent and connectivity to the Amazon EC2 instance.

When you add a new virtual client, a corresponding virtual client group is created automatically.

If you plan to use an existing Amazon EC2 instance as the destination VM, verify that you have the Oracle and File System agent packages installed on the VM, and register the VM with the same CommCell as the source client. Also, make sure to add the destination VM to the virtual client group.

Configure a one-way network topology from the CommServe computer and the MediaAgent to the virtual client group. For more information, see Setting up a One-Way Direct Connection (Server to Client) Using a Predefined Network Topology.

Step 4: Create a VM lifecycle policy for Amazon

For more information, see Creating a VM Lifecycle Policy for Amazon.

To discover AMIs that were added after you created the policy, refresh the Amazon region information. For more information, see Refreshing Amazon Region Information.

Step 5: Migrate the Oracle Database

For more information, see Performing Oracle Database Application Migration.
