Stopping and Starting the HyperScale X Appliance Cluster

You can stop and restart a HyperScale X Appliance cluster. While stopping or starting the cluster, it is important to follow the proper shut down and startup procedures to prevent data loss.

Stopping the Cluster

  1. Stop or suspend all running jobs.

For more information, see Controlling Jobs.

  2. Set the MediaAgent on maintenance mode.

For more information, see Setting the MediaAgent on Maintenance Mode.

  3. Stop the Commvault services and unmount the Hedvig vdisk on all the nodes in the cluster:
    1. Using an SSH client program, like PuTTy on Windows, login to a node using the root credentials.
    2. Run the following command to stop services:

      commvault stop

    3. Unmount the Hedvig vdisk using the following command:

      umount /ws/hedvig/<vdiskname>

To get the <vdiskname> use the ls /ws/hedvig command. <vdiskname> is the name sub-folder under /ws/hedvig.

    4. Repeat the steps on the other nodes in the cluster.
  4. Stop the cluster using the following steps:
    1. Switch to the admin user.

      su – admin

    2. Run the following command:

      hv_deploy

    3. At the hv_deploy prompt, display the cluster name and note down the name.

      show_all_clusters

    4. Login to the cluster.

      login_to_cluster <cluster name>

When prompted, type the root password.

    5. Stop the cluster

      stop_cluster

Starting the Cluster

  1. Using an SSH client program, like PuTTy on Windows, login to a node using the root credentials.
  2. Switch to the admin user.

    su – admin

  3. Run the following command:

    hv_deploy

  4. At the hv_deploy prompt, display the cluster name and note down the cluster name.

    show_all_clusters

  5. Login to the cluster.

    login_to_cluster <cluster name>

When prompted, type the root password.

  6. Start the cluster

    start_cluster

  7. Mount the Hedvig vdisk using the following command:

    mount /ws/hedvig/<vdiskname>

  8. Disable the maintenance mode for the MediaAgent to bring it online.

For step-by-step instructions, see Setting the MediaAgent on Maintenance Mode.
