Automatic Server Plan Backup Schedules and Associated Conversion Rules

Backup schedules are created based on the settings that you specify when you create a server plan. These schedules are automatically converted to full backup schedules based on backup conversion rules.

Generic Schedule

This table lists the schedules that are created based on the settings that you specify when you create a server plan. For more information, see Creating a Server Backup Plan.

Schedules

Server plan settings

Agents

Expected run time

Synthetic full

In the Add backup destination dialog box, the Retention period setting for the primary storage is 1 month (the default value).

All agents that support synthetic full backups

Based on the retention rules for the primary storage copy, which is 30 days.

Incremental

In the RPO section, the Backup frequency setting is every 1 day (the default value).

All agents

Based on backup RPO settings.

  • Full
  • Synthetic full

In the RPO section, The Add full backup toggle key is enabled.

All

Based on settings.

The default value is weekly.

Continuous backup copy

In the Snapshot options section, the Backup copy frequency setting is 4 hours (the default value).

All agents that support snap backups

Based on backup RPO settings.

Incremental automatic for logs

In the Database options section, the Log backup RPO setting is 4 hours (the default value).

All database agents

Every 4 hours. However, the default backup runs sooner than the default 4 hours schedule in the following cases:

  • For SQL: 80% of the log file is utilized.
  • For Oracle/Oracle RAC/SAP Oracle/Notes/MongoDB:
    • 80% of the disk at the log destination is utilized.
    • The number of archived logs in the log destination exceeds 50.

Agent-Specific Schedule

This table describes the conversion rules where incremental and synthetic full backup schedules are converted into a full backup schedule.

Schedule

Agents

When incremental backups are converted to full backups

Continuous incremental backup

  • Amazon Web Services
  • Microsoft Azure SQL

Converts to a full backup 24 hours after the most recent full backup on the subclient.

Continuous/daily/weekly incremental backup

  • IBM DB2
  • IBM Informix
  • MySQL
  • Oracle Database
  • Oracle RAC
  • PostgreSQL
  • SAP Sybase

Converts to a full backup 7 days after the most recent full backup on the subclient.

Daily/weekly incremental backup

SQL Server

Converts to a full backup 7 days after the most recent full backup on the subclient.

Note: The differential backup runs as specified by the schedule policy.

Daily/weekly incremental backup

  • Amazon Web Services
  • Microsoft Azure SQL

Converts to a full backup as specified by the schedule policy.

Daily incremental and synthetic full

Salesforce

The synthetic full backup converts to full backup every 30 days.
