Backing Up a VAX/VMS Client

Back up VAX/VMS client data by using the VAX/VMS backup utility.

  1. Run the BACKUP command on the VAX/VMS system to back up the required directories. Set the NFS mount root directory as the target directory for the Backup save set.

    $ BACKUP [SOMEFOLDER...],[DATA*...] _DNFS01:[000000]X.BCK/SAVE_SET

  2. On the Linux client, verify that the Backup save set file is visible:

    [root@linuxserver root]# cd /lab/hpux03
    [root@linuxserver hpux03]# ls -l
    total 392784
    -rwxr-x--- 1 4294967294 4294967294 401812992 Jan 5 09:05 x.bck
    [root@linuxserer hpux03]#

  3. On the CommServe computer, create a subclient for the Linux client to back up the directory where the Backup save set was created (because the BACKUP command creates a hidden file which must be backed up and restored).
  4. On the CommServe computer, back up the subclient.
