HyperScale Input Validator

HyperScale Input Validator tool can be used for validating the network entries to avoid failures during HyperScale setup. The tool performs the following checks:

  • Ensures that the Data protection and StoragePool network settings are in different subnets.
  • Validates the forward and reverse lookup for DNS entries in the HyperScale X Appliance nodes and the CommServe.
  • Checks compatibility with html installer for HyperScale X Appliance nodes FQDN (Full Qualified Domain Name) and CommServe FQDN.

Note: The tool must be used before setting up the HyperScale nodes. The tool will not be able to validate the network entries, once the nodes are setup.

Procedure

  1. Login to any Windows x64 based computer that can connect to the HyperScale X Appliance nodes and the CommServe.
  2. Download the HyperScaleInputValidator from Commvault Store.
  3. Open the command prompt and navigate to the folder containing the downloaded file, cvHyperScaleXInputValidate.exe.
  4. Extract the template file using the following command:

    C:\Downloads>cvHyperScaleXInputValidate.exe -g
...Successfully generated config template file at [C:\Downloads\hs_config_template.yaml].

  5. Using a text editor, open the hs_config_template.yaml file and add the following information:
    • In the Nodes: section, add the IP address for the Data Protection and Storage Pool network associated with the nodes.
    • In the Network: section, add the IP address associated with the Default Gateway and the Netmask associated with Data Protection and Storage Pool.
    • In the NameServers: section, add the IP address associated with the DNS server.

One DNS server is mandatory. Add additional DNS servers, if available.

Make sure to remove the unused entries in this section.

    • In the NameServers: section, add the FQDN associated with the CommServe(s).

One CommServe is mandatory. Add FQDN associated with additional CommServe(s), if available.

Make sure to remove the unused entries in this section.

    Save the file.

  6. Run the validation using the following command:

    C:\Downloads>cvHyperScaleXInputValidate.exe -v hs_config_template.yaml
    ...Successfully completed all validations

If the output displays an error, correct the value associated with error and then re-run the validation until it completes successfully.

Make sure that all the validations are successful before setting up the HyperScale nodes.
