Backing Up Documentum Databases Using the Command Line Interface

Use the backup_template.xml configuration file to back up Documentum databases.

You can add or modify XML parameters in the backup file, or you can set them in the command-line parameters and options. For more information on command line parameters and XML elements, see Command Line - Syntax.

You can also limit the number of database data and log backup jobs that can simultaneously run on a client. For more information, see Throttling Backup Jobs.

  1. On the Documentum Agent host, run the qlogin command to log on to the CommServe computer.
  2. Save the backup_template.xml file to the computer where you will run the command.
  3. On the computer where you want to run the command, open the backup_template.xml file, add the attribute values to back up the databases, and save the file.

For information on supported instance and subclient XML elements, see XML Parameters for Documentum Backups and Restores.

  4. On the command line, go to Software_Installation_Directory/Base directory and type the following command:

qoperation execute -af backup_template.xml -appName Documentum -clientName <client_name> -instanceName <dbname> -subclientName <subclient_name> -backupLevel <backup_type>

  5. Verify the status of the job. On the command line type the command:

    qlist job –j job_id

  6. When the job is completed, run the qlogout command to log off the CommServe computer.
