Customizing Disks During Bare Metal Recovery Using 1-Touch for Windows (Dissimilar System Restore)

When the target computer has the disk layout different than the disk layout of backed up computer, then you have to customize the disk layout of target computer during 1-Touch recovery. Follow the steps given below to map disks and customize the disk partitions during the Interactive or Non-interactive restore:

  1. During an Interactive or Non-interactive restore, when the disk layout on the target computer is different than the disk layout of backed up computer, the Customize the Disks dialog box is displayed. The dialog box displays the Source Disk Layout and Destination Disk Layout areas.

The Source Disk Layout is the disk layout of the client computer at the time of the backup

The Destination Disk Layout is the disk layout of the target computer.

Before creating disk partitions on the destination disk, you must initialize the disk. Right-click any disk in the Destination Disk Layout and select one of the following options:

    • Initialize as MBR Basic Disk
    • Initialize as MBR Dynamic Disk
    • Initialize as GPT Basic Disk
    • Initialize as GPT Dynamic Disk

  2. Click Yes.

  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the required disks in the Destination Disk Layout. Once all the required disks are initialized, click Done, and you can map the volumes from the source disk to the destination disks.
  4. Right-click a volume in the Source Disk Layout and select Map.

  5. In the Customize the Volumes dialog box, select a disk from the Available Disk List. The volume selected in the previous step will be created on the selected disk.

    Click OK.

  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for all the volumes from the Source Disk Layout, which you want to create in the target computer.

Once all the required volumes are mapped, click OK on the Map the Disks dialog box. The Full System Restore starts.
