Backing Up Oracle RAC Databases Using the Commvault Command Line Interface

Use XML to back up Oracle RAC databases.

Procedure

  1. If you are not logged on to the CommServe computer, run the qlogin command.
  2. Download the backup_template.xml file to the computer where you will run the command.
  3. Open the backup_template.xml file, add your specific parameters, and save the file.
  4. On the command line, go to Software_Installation_Directory/Base and type the command.

    qoperation execute -af backup_template.xml -appName 'Oracle RAC' -clientName 'client_name' -instanceName 'dbname' -subclientName 'subclient_name' -backupLevel 'backup_type'

    You can define parameters in the xml file, or you can specify them on the command line when they frequently change. For more information on command line parameters and XML elements, see Command Line - Syntax.

  5. To logoff the CommServe computer, run the qlogout command.

Examples

The following command performs a full backup. In this example, the parameters are listed on the command line.

qoperation execute -af backup.xml -appName 'Oracle RAC' -clientName client1 -instanceName instance1 -subclientName subclient1 -backupLevel FULL

The following command performs an incremental backup. In this example, the parameters are listed on the command line.

qoperation execute -af backup.xml -appName 'Oracle RAC' -clientName client1 -instanceName instance1 -subclientName subclient1 -backupLevel INCREMENTAL
