Migrating Domino Mailbox and Messages to an Exchange Client

You can migrate mailbox and messages from a Domino client to an Exchange client either as a PST file or to a mailbox.

Migrating from a Domino Client to an Exchange Mailbox

You can migrate mailbox and messages from a Domino client to an Exchange client mailbox.

Before You Begin

  • Verify that you have Domino Mailbox Agent and Exchange Mailbox Agent registered to the same CommServe or CommCell.
  • Enable the additional setting bEnableRestoreToExchange on the CommServe.
  • Verify that the internet address for a mailbox user in the Domino environment matches the corresponding user's primary or secondary SMTP address in the Exchange environment. This ensures that the messages are migrated to the correct user account on the Exchange client during an in-place restore operation.
  • Register Domino Directory and Active Directory domains with the CommServe, and then restart the services on the CommServe. For more information, see Adding a Domain Controller for Domino Directory Services and Adding a Domain Controller for Active Directory.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > Domino Mailbox Archiver > instance.
  2. Right click the archive set that contains the data that you want to migrate, and then click All Tasks | Browse and Restore.

The Browse and Restore Options dialog box is displayed.

  3. Click View Content.
  4. In the left pane of the Client Browse window, expand the archive set to select a mailbox or a message.
  5. Click Recover All Selected.

The Restore Options for All Selected Items dialog box is displayed.

  6. Select Restore to Exchange.
  7. From the Destination Client list, select a client computer to which you want to migrate your mailbox and messages.
  8. Select To Mailbox, and decide a destination location to migrate the mailbox and messages by following anyone of the given procedures:
    • To migrate to the same location (as source) on the destination client, select the Recover to Same Path check box.
    • To migrate to a different location on the destination client, clear the Recover to Same Path check box. Type the path or click Browse to select a location, and then click OK.
  9. Optional: If the mailbox and messages already exist at the selected destination location, you can select any one of the given options:
    • To overwrite the messages at the destination location with the migrated messages, select Unconditional Overwrite.
    • To skip overwriting the messages at the destination location with the new migrated messages, select Skip.
  10. Click OK.

Notes:

  • We do not restore folder structure from Domino environment to Exchange environment. Mails present under the All Documents view in Domino environment are migrated to the Inbox folder in Exchange environment.
  • We do not support migration of Domino mailbox and messages to Office 365.
  • Calendar, to do and contacts are restored as emails.
