Backing Up Cassandra Databases

You can perform a full or incremental backup of the Cassandra database, commit log or both.

Before You Begin

  • If you want to perform incremental backups, you must enable incremental backups on all Cassandra nodes. Edit the Cassandra configuration file (cassandra.yaml) and set the incremental_backups parameter to true.
  • To have the Commvault software back up the user-defined types, set the capture.type parameter to true in /etc/Priam/cvPriam properties. You only need to modify the file on the Gateway node (Instance Properties dialog box, General tab).

    priam.capture.types=true

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client> Big Data Apps >instance.
  2. Right-click the default_subclient, and then click Backup.

The Backup Options dialog box appears.

  3. Select the backup type and job initiation:
    1. In the Select Backup Type area, choose your backup type and what to include in the backup:
      • To perform a full backup, select Full.
      • To perform an incremental backup, select Incremental.
      • To include the data in the backup, select the Data check box.
      • To include the commit log in the backup, select the Log check box.
      • To only include the commit log in the backup, select the Log check box, and clear the Data check box.
      • To only include the data in the backup, select the Data check box, and clear the Log check box.
    2. In the Job Initiation section, specify whether to run the backup now or if it will be scheduled.

Note: If you selected Schedule, set up the schedule. For information on configuring a backup schedule, see Schedule Backups.

  4. Click OK.
