IBM Spectrum Scale (GPFS) Subclients
IBM Spectrum Scale (GPFS) supports the following types of subclients:
- Default subclients
- User-defined subclients
When you create an instance, a default subclient is automatically created. The default subclient protects all GPFS volumes in the instance. You can create user-defined subclients to protect different groups of data.
You can change the data access nodes that are associated with the default subclient and with the user-defined subclients. All the subclients within an instance have the same master node, but you can change the master node of an instance.
Subblock Support for Archiving
A subblock is a smallest unit of disk storage for IBM Spectrum Scale (GPFS) file system. IBM Spectrum Scale (GPFS) files that are smaller in size than one file system block (16 MB) are archived in the units of subblocks (2 to 3 MB).
Granular archiving at the level of subblocks saves disk space by efficiently storing the archived data.
