NFS ObjectStore Use Cases
You can use the NFS ObjectStore solution to support the following scenarios.
NFS Clients That Do Not Have a Corresponding File System Agent (For example, Teradata)
Commvault does not have an agent for Teradata. NFS ObjectStore provides the solution to protect data generated by Teradata.
FTP Server That Uses the Commvault ContentStore
Configure an FTP server to write data to the ContentStore.
Oracle RMAN Backups
You can perform Oracle RMAN incremental and full backups that send the data to NFS ObjectStore.
Hadoop Cold Storage
You can use NFS ObjectStore for Hadoop Cold Storage that is not frequently read. NFS ObjectStore has the benefits of deduplication and inexpensive storage.
Mainframe Data Dumps
IBM mainframe computers can dump data to a VTL whose backing store can be NFS ObjectStore. This way mainframes can use existing command line backup commands to write to a tape library and at the same time have the benefits of Commvault ContentStore.
Frequently Generated Data That is Rarely Accessed
Applications that frequently generate data but rarely access it, such as audio/video surveillance applications can directly dump data to NFS ObjectStore without the need for a dedicated file server. The traditional data protection method is to store this data in a file server and then periodically run a backup job to protect this data. For this kind of applications, there is no need for this intermediate step. This will reduce hardware and administrative costs.
Data and Image Storage
Oceanography and medical imaging applications that generate a large amount of data can dump the data to the NFS ObjectStore. The NFS ObjectStore acts as a local site to users so that users can collaborate and work on the data.
You can use NFS ObjectStore as a repository for your Netezza backups.
Live Mount Operation and Clone Operation on an Oracle Database
With the Commvault NFS ObjectStore array as the image copy location for the Oracle agent, you can perform live mount operations and clone operations.
