Installing the CommServe and MediaAgent on the Commvault Appliance A410 or A210

As of Version 11 SP10, Commvault does not sell the A600, A410 or the A210 Appliance anymore. You can purchase the Commvault HyperScale Appliance instead. For more information, see Commvault HyperScale Appliance.

You can install the CommServe and the MediaAgent components on the Commvault Appliance A410 or A210.

To install only the MediaAgent component, see Installing the MediaAgent on Commvault Appliance A410 or A210.

Before You Begin

Ensure that you have collected all the system information before you install the server components and configure the Commvault Appliance A410 or A210. For more information see, Preparing for the Commvault Appliance A410 or A210 Installation.


  1. Turn on the appliance and press Ctrl+Alt+Del to log on to Windows.
  2.  In the Administrator box, type appliance@cv1 and press Enter.

    The Simpana Configuration Wizard will start automatically after a successful login.

    Note: If the wizard does not start automatically, double-click the Simpana Applications icon available in C:\ApplianceInstall\Saphire.

  3. Click License Agreement, review the Simpana End User License Agreement and click Agree.
  4. Follow the instructions in the wizard, which installs and configures the CommServe, MediaAgent, disk library, and global deduplication storage policy.

    Global deduplication storage policy enables deduplication across multiple storage policies by using a common set of disk libraries and deduplication database (DDB).

  5.  On the Select Network Interfaces page, select one or more of the 10 GigE ports check boxes to configure the network settings for data ingestion and click Next.

     Choose how you want to assign the IP address and the DNS server details:

    • If you have the DHCP to automatically assign IP addresses and detect the DNS server, then on the Configure the selected network interface page, ensure that the Obtain the IPV4 address automatically and the Obtain the DNS server address automatically check boxes are selected and click Next.
    • In the absence of a DHCP server, clear the Obtain the IPV4 address automatically and the Obtain the DNS server address automatically checkboxes, type the appropriate details and click Next.
  6. On the Host name and domain settings page, choose whether you want to assign assign a new host name.
    • To configure the Commvault Appliance A410 or A210 in an existing domain, select the Join this appliance to a domain checkbox.

      If you do not join an existing domain, the Commvault Appliance A410 or A210 remains in the Workgroup.

      Type the appropriate domain credentials in the available boxes.

    • To assign a new host name, in the New Host Name field, enter a unique name to identify the computer on the network.

    A message prompts you to restart your computer.

    Click Yes to confirm the host name change and click OK to restart the computer.

    Note: The installation will resume after the computer restart.

  7.  Log on to the system using the same credentials that were used earlier.


    • Default credentials are required only during the initial installation.
    • After the A410 or A210 is installed and configured, you must change the default administrator log on credentials for this system. Fore more information, see Changing the CommCell Administrator Password.

    The Simpana Configuration Wizard automatically resumes the configuration process.

  8. On the Simpana software setup page, do the following:
    1. Select CommServe system and MediaAgent.
    2. If you want to configure email alerts, in the Email server and the Email address for the Simpana administrator boxes, type theserver name and the administrator details.
    3. Click Next.
  9. Click Configure to complete the installation and configuration process.

    Note: The configuration process takes approximately 10 minutes. The wizard will install the SQL Server Enterprise, Simpana software, CommServe, Virtual Server and File System agents and it will also populate the software and software update cache.

  10. Click Finish.
  11. After the successful software installation and configuration, you will be prompted to configure the disk library.

    Click Yes. To configure the disk Library.


The wizard displays that two mount paths are created on the disk library.

What to Do Next

After installing and configuring the CommServe and MediaAgent components on the Commvault Appliance A410 or A210, change the default Windows administrator password for the appliance.
