Setting up Network Gateway Connections Using Basic Network Settings

You can configure clients or client groups to connect to the CommServe computer and MediaAgent through a network gateway.

The Basic network settings specifies whether, and how often, the client is on the same network as the CommServe computer and MediaAgent.

The basic configuration is recommended for new users.

Note: The basic configuration is not available for MediaAgents.

Procedure

  1. Set up the Commvault network gateway.
  2. Install the Commvault software on one or more clients. During client installation, configure the client to connect to the CommServe computer through a network gateway. For network settings instructions during the installation, see Setting Up Connectivity to the CommServe Computer Using a Network Gateway.
  3. Configure the client or client group using the Basic network setting:
    1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the client or client group, and then click Properties.

The client properties or client group properties dialog box appears.

    2. Click Network.

The Network Properties dialog box appears.

    4. Choose an option for establishing connectivity with the CommServe through the Commvault network gateway:
      • If the client and CommServe reside on different networks, select Always outside of CommServe network.
      • If the client does not always reside on the CommServe network, select May travel outside of CommServe network. We recommend this option for laptop computers and other mobile devices.
    5. Select the Use Galaxy network gateway, and then select the Commvault network gateway that you configured above.
    6. On the MediaAgent Connectivity tab, select one of the following options for establishing connectivity with the MediaAgent through the Commvault network gateway:
      • If the client and MediaAgent reside on different networks, select Always outside of MediaAgent network.
      • If the client does not always reside on the MediaAgent network, select May travel outside of MediaAgent network. We recommend this option for laptop computers and other mobile device.
