Restoring an Exchange Database to the Same Location

You can restore an Exchange database to the same location from where it was backed up. This type of restore operation is called an “in-place restore operation”.

Note: You can perform the restore operation on a default subclient or a user-defined subclient that was backed up at least one time.

Before You Begin

  • Verify that the database that you want to restore is dismounted and marked for overwrite.
  • Suspend the database copy so that replication does not occur during the restore operation.
  • You can restore Exchange databases only to the same version of Exchange from which the database was backed up. For example, you can restore an Exchange 2013 database to an Exchange 2013 server, but not to an Exchange 2010 server.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Applications > Exchange.

    The Exchange page appears.

  2. Click an Exchange database.

    The Exchange Database page appears.

  3. From the Subclients section, use one of the following methods to perform a restore operation:
    • In the Actions column for the subclient, click the action button action_button, and then click Restore database.
    • Click a subclient that you want to restore, and then, on the subclient page, click Restore database.

    The Backup content page appears.

  4. Click Microsoft Information Store.
  5. From the upper-right of the page, select a backup to restore:
    • To use the most recent backup, click Show latest backups.
    • To use a backup from a specific date, click Show backups as of a specific date, select a date, and then select the backup.
    • To use a backup from a date range, click Show backups for a date range, select a date range, and then select the backup.
  6. Select thee databases that you want to restore, and then click Restore.

    • Restore to: Select Same database.
