Scheduling Reverse Replication
After a virtual machine fails over to a secondary site, you can enable reverse replication to ensure that the VM at the primary site is updated with any changes that occur on the VM while it is running at the secondary site.
This feature is available only for VMware destination sites.
The reverse replication operation is different, depending on whether the failover operation was unplanned or planned:
- After an unplanned failover, the reverse replication operation performs a full replication of the VM to the primary site. You can create a schedule to apply subsequent incremental updates to the VM at the primary site.
- After a planned failover when the source VM is still available at the primary site, the reverse replication operation applies incremental updates from the VM at the secondary site to the VM at the primary site. Reverse replication operations use the existing replication configuration for the VM, so that the VM running at the secondary site is replicated to the primary site using the same schedule that was configured for the original replication operation.
Before You Begin
For VMware destination sites: To perform failover, test boot, and failback operations for VMware destination sites, VMware tools must be installed on the source VMs before replicating the VMs.
- From the navigation pane, go to Disaster recovery > Replication Monitor.
The Replication monitor page appears.
- On the row for the replication pair, in the Actions column, click the action button, click Replication, and then click Reverse replication.
- On the Reverse replication dialog box, confirm the operation to enable reverse replication.
The operation creates a reverse replication schedule automatically.
- To modify the reverse replication schedule, on the row for the replication pair, in the Actions column, click the action button, click Replication, and then click Reverse replication schedule.
The Reverse replication schedule dialog box appears.
- Enter the schedule information, and then click OK.
