Editing Content for a Subclient Policy in Admin Console

You can add or edit the content that is backed up for a subclient in a subclient policy. The content includes which paths or files are backed up, items that are excluded from the content, and exceptions to the excluded content.

Before You Begin

  • If your user account does not have read permissions for the subclient content, you must have the user credentials of an account with read access to all of the paths in the subclient content.

Procedure

  1. To add content that you want to include in the subclient backups, in the Add/Edit content pane, under Content, do either of the following:

    Browse

    Select paths to add to the content by browsing the file system of a client.

    1. Click Browse.

      The Select a path pane appears.

    2. From the Client list, select a client to browse.

      A file system tree for the client appears.

    3. Expand the nodes of the file system and select the check boxes for the entities that you want to include in the content.

      Tip: You can add a new folder by clicking New Folder.

    4. Click Save.

      The paths to the entities you selected appear under Content.

    Add/Edit paths

    Enter one or more paths or wildcard patterns for the content that you want to include.

    For example, to include all text files files, enter *.txt.

    1. Click Add/Edit paths.

      The Add/Edit multiple content pane appears.

    2. Enter the path or wildcard pattern for the content that you want to include in the subclient.

      Tip: You can enter multiple paths and wildcard patterns on separate lines.

    3. Click OK.

      The paths to the entities you selected appear under Content.

  2. If your user credentials do not have read access to the subclient content, click As User, enter the credentials of the user account with read access, and then click OK.
  3. Optional: To exclude specific entities that are located in the subclient contents from the backup, expand Exclusions, and then do one of the following:

    Select paths to exclude from backups by browsing the file system of a client.

    1. Click Browse.

      The Select a path pane appears.

    2. From the Client list, select a client to browse.

      A file system tree for the client appears.

    3. Expand the nodes of the file system and select the check boxes for the entities that you want to exclude from backups.

      Tip: You can add a new folder by clicking New Folder.

    4. Click Save.

      The paths to the entities you selected appear under Exclusions.

    Add/Edit paths

    Enter one or more paths or wildcard patterns for the content that you want to exclude from backups.

    For example, to exclude executable files, enter *.exe.

    1. Click Add/Edit paths.

      The Add/Edit multiple content pane appears.

    2. Enter the path or wildcard pattern for the content that you want to exclude from backups.

      Tips: You can enter multiple paths and wildcard patterns on separate lines.

    3. Click OK.

      The paths to the entities you selected appear under Exclusions.

  4. Optional: To define an exception for excluded content, expand Exceptions, and then do one of the following:

    Select paths to except from the exclusions by browsing the file system of a client.

    1. Click Browse.

    2. From the Client list, select a client to browse.

      A file system tree for the client appears.

    3. Expand the nodes of the file system and select the check boxes for the entities that you want to except from the excluded content.

      Tip: You can add a new folder by clicking New Folder.

    4. Click Save.

      The paths to the entities you selected appear under Exceptions.

    Add/Edit paths

    Enter one or more paths or wildcard patterns for the content that you want to except from the exclusions.

    For example, to include any Microsoft Word Document files in folders that are excluded from backups, enter *.doc and *.docx on separate lines.

    1. Click Add/Edit paths.

      The Add/Edit multiple content pane appears.

    2. Enter the path or wildcard pattern for the content that you want to except from the excluded content.

      Tips: You can enter multiple paths and wildcard patterns on separate lines.

    3. Click OK.

      The paths to the entities you selected appear under Exceptions.

  5. Click OK.
