Process for Configuring Replication

You can configure replication in the following ways:

  • Replicate all of the VMs in a VM group.
  • Replicate selected VMs.

Replicating All VMs in a VM Group

A VM group identifies VMs to be backed up, either by selecting specific VMs or by defining rules to discover VMs automatically. Using rules enables the list of VMs in a VM group to change dynamically as VMs are added or removed.

To replicate all of the VMs in a VM group, complete the following tasks:

When replication is configured for a VM group, all VMs in the VM group are backed up according to the schedule defined in the replication plan, and then replicated to the replication target. If new VMs are added to the VM group, either by selecting the VMs directly or by automatic discovery rules, those VMs will automatically be selected for replication.

A replication group is automatically created for the VMs in the VM group.

Replicating Selected VMs

To replicate selected VMs, complete the following tasks:

When replication is configured for selected VMs, the VMs must be backed up before you can select them for the replication group. VMs are backed up and replicated according to the settings in the replication group.

Monitoring Replication

After configuring replication, you can use the Replication monitor to check the status of replication, or to initiate a failover from a primary site to a secondary site where VMs have been replicated.
