Instances

The instances page lists all of your Oracle and SQL instances.

You can perform the following operations on the instances page:

Instance Details

An instance is a logical entity that you use to manage backup and restore operations for all the databases that are created in that instance.

By default, the instances the software automatically discovers and displays the instances that are available on the SQL Server .

The instance details page contains the following information:

  • The Commvault software version
  • The account that you use to perform backup and restore operations
  • The subclients that are configured for the instance

You can perform the following operations on the instance details page:

  • Add a SQL subclient.
  • Modify the instance user account.
  • Perform a backup.
  • Manage database clones.
  • Modify the security settings.

  • View the instance or the subclient job history. For information on the job history, see Jobs.
    • To view the instance backup history, in the upper-right of the page, click Backup History.
    • To view the instance restore history, in the upper-right of the page, click Restore History.
    • To view the subclient backup history, in the Actions column for the subclient, click the action button action_button, and then click Backup History.
    • To view the subclient restore history, in the Actions column for the subclient, click the action button action_button, and then click Restore History.

Subclients

A subclient is a logical entity containing the databases that needs to be backed up. A default subclient is created with each instance during the installation of the SQL Server Agent. It contains all the databases in the instance when the first backup is performed. A default subclient is designed to protect all data in the instance.

The subclient details page displays the following information:

  • The latest backup information, for example the size
  • The date and time of the next backup
  • The backup schedules
  • The data storage policy
  • The enabled alerts
  • The subclient content

The following operations are available on the subclient details page:

  • Modify the database plan. In the Plan area, click Edit. Then, from the Plan list select the plan, and then click OK.
  • Perform a backup.
  • Modify the security settings.

  • View the subclient job history. For information on the job history, see Jobs.
    • To view the backup history, in the upper-right of the page, click Backup History.
    • To view the restore history, in the upper-right of the page, click Restore History.
  • Modify the subclient content.
  • Delete a subclient. In the upper-right of the page, click Delete.

    Note: You cannot delete the default subclient.
