Creating a Database Plan

You must create a server plan to start protecting your database data and log files.

Before You Begin

If you have not already done so, create a storage pool. For information, see Storage Pool.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, click Configuration > Plans.

    The Plans page appears.

  2. Click Create, and then select Database.

    The Create database plan page appears.

  3. In the Plan name box, type the name of the plan.
  4. Under Data storage configuration, specify the storage information for the database backups:
    1. From the Primary Storage list, select the storage pool.
    2. In the Retention period box, type the number of days that the software will retain the data.
    3. To configure an auxiliary copy, click Add storage.
      • From the Secondary storage list, select the secondary storage pool.
      • To configure the secondary retention period, in the Retention period box, type the number of days that the software will retain the secondary copy.
      • In the Backup SLA box, type the number of hours for the backup Service Level Agreement (SLA).

        The software uses this value for the Daily Incremental backup schedule.

    4. Optional: To add an additional schedule, under Schedule, click Add schedule.
  5. Under Log storage configuration, specify the storage information for the log file backups.
    1. From the Primary Storage list, select the storage pool.
    2. In the Retention period box, type the number of days that the software will retain the data.
    3. To configure an auxiliary copy, click Add storage.
      • From the Secondary storage list, select the secondary storage pool.
      • To configure the secondary retention period, in the Retention period box, type the number of days that the software will retain the secondary copy.
    4. In the Backup SLA box, type the number of hours for your Service Level Agreement.

      The software uses this value for the Daily Incremental backup schedule.

    5. Optional: To add an additional schedule, under Schedule, click Add schedule.

  6. Click Save.

Result

The software creates a plan and a storage policy.

When you configure secondary storage for the database or the log files the Commvault software automatically runs an auxiliary copy job every 30 minutes.

You can assign the plan to database subclients.
