Creating User-Defined Backup Sets on the IBM i File System Agent Client

Backup sets are logical containers that define all of the production data that you want to protect. When you install the IBM i File System Agent client, a default backup set is automatically created, which contains the following subclients that are designed to act as a catch all, automatically detecting and protecting all data the agent is responsible to protect:

Subclient name

All documents and folders

All user libraries

The configuration objects

*HST log

The history logs

All IBM supplied libraries

The system directories, user directories, and the objects that the directories contain

The security data

You can create additional backup sets to provide a separate administration point for a specific group of subclients.

  1. From the CommCell Console, expand Client Computers > client > Proxy Client File System.
  2. Right-click File System, point to All Tasks, and click Create New Backup Set.

The Create New Backup Set dialog box appears.

  3. Enter the backup set information:
    • In the New Backup Set Name box, type the new backup set name.
    • In the Storage Policy box, enter a storage policy name that you want to use.
    • If you want to assign the new backup set as the default backup set, select the Make this the Default Backup Set check box.
  4. Click OK to apply the settings and create the backup set.

The software creates the backup set, and the subclients.
