Changing the Host or Proxies for Xen Instances

You can modify the Xen Virtual Server instance properties to rename the instance, change the master server name, or add and remove XenServers and proxies.

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > virtualization_client > Virtual Server.
  2. Right-click the Xen instance, and then click Properties.

The Virtual Server Instance Properties dialog box is displayed.

  3. On the General tab, you can modify instance settings such as:
    • Instance Name
    • Xen Server Host (master XenServer host name)
    • To modify user account credentials, click Change.

To perform discovery, backup, and restore operations within an instance, you need administrator-level global, virtual machine, and resource privileges. Provide credentials for the root user or a user account having the Pool Administrator (Pool Admin) role.

  4. On the Proxies tab, you can add, remove, or change the order of proxies.

After adding a virtualization client in V11, you can only specify VSA proxies that are also V11.

Only proxies that match the type of the virtualization client are displayed.

Note: When creating a Xen virtual machine to be used as a VSA proxy, ensure that the Copy host BIOS strings to VM option is not selected.  If the Copy host BIOS strings to VM option was selected when a Xen virtual machine was created, the virtual machine will not be recognized as a Xen proxy.

    • To include additional proxies, click Add.

The Select Clients/Client Groups dialog box is displayed.

      1. From the Exclude list, select one or more proxies.

The list displays all the clients that have the Virtual Server Agent installed and all the client groups. You can select one or more clients or client groups. When you select a client group, ensure that at least one client in the group has the Virtual Server Agent installed.

      2. Click Include or Include All and then click OK.
    • To remove a proxy, select the proxy name and then click Remove.
    • To change the order of proxies, select a proxy and then click the up or down icon.

The first proxy listed for a client acts (the coordinator) allocates jobs to other proxies.

  5. Click OK.
