Configuring Single Sign-On (SSO) for Viewing Analytics Reports from Multiple CommCells

If you have multiple CommCell environments that run Data Analytics, you can configure multi-CommCell single sign-on (SSO) so that users can access all of your CommCell analytics reports from a single Web Console.

How it Works

Users access Data Analytics reports from the Web Console installed in your CommCell environment. If you have multiple CommCells, users must log in to a different Web Console each time they want to access a report from a different CommCell. With this feature, you can configure one of your Web Console installations to serve as an access point for viewing analytics reports from all of your CommCells. This means users can log in to a single Web Console and go back and forth between analytics reports from different CommCells without requiring multiple logins.

This configuration utilizes the multi-CommCell single sign-on (SSO) feature to enable users to access multiple Web Console sites without the need to sign in multiple times. This procedure uses the following terms to the describe how each CommCell functions in this configuration:

  • Identity Provider - This CommCell contains the Web Console that is used as the access point for all of the other remote CommCell analytics reports.
  • Service Provider - These CommCells contain the additional analytics reports that are access from the Web Console of the identity provider CommCell.

Before You Begin

  • Select a CommCell to serve as the identity provider. The identity provider CommCell contains the Web Console that is used as the access point for all of the analytics reports. The identity provider CommCell must also have Metrics Reporting Server installed.

For more information, see Installing the Metrics Reporting Server.

  • Users in all of the CommCell environments must have permissions for viewing Data Analytics reports in the Web Console.

For more information, see User Requirements for Viewing Data Analytics Reports.

  • This features is only supported for File Analytics reports.

  1. Configure your CommCells for multi-CommCell single sign-on as follows:
    • Configure the CommCell with the Web Console entry point for viewing analytics reports as the identity provider.
    • Configure the remote CommCells as service providers.
    • When mapping users between the identity provider and service providers, ensure each user has permissions for viewing Data Analytics reports.

For instructions about configuring multi-CommCell single sign-on, see Setting Up IdP and SP CommCells for Multi-CommCell Single Sign-On (SSO).

  2. From the identity provider CommCell, register each service provider CommCell as a remote CommCell.

For instructions about registering a remote CommCell, see Registering a Remote CommCell.

  3. Optional: To view additional groups in the Analytics Reports dashboard that contain clients from all of your remote CommCell environments, perform the following steps on all of your CommCell environments:
    1. From the CommCell Console, create client computer groups with the following names:
      • AllServers
      • Datacenter
      • WindowsServer
    2. Add clients from the CommCell environment that you want to appear in each report the respective group.

For example, if you want all of your clients to appear in the AllServers Analytics Report list, then add all of the clients in your CommCell environment to the AllServers client group.

    3. Repeat the procedure as necessary for all of your CommCell environments.

For instructions about creating a client computer group, see Creating a Client Computer Group.

Instruct users to log in to the Web Console on the identity provider CommCell. From the analytics report view, users can select the Select CommCell drop-down menu to view analytics reports from the service provider CommCells. When users click a report from a service provider CommCell, they are redirected to appropriate Web Console for that CommCell.

Note: If you configured the optional client groups, users will also be able to select the AllServers, Datacenter, and WindowsServer groups from the File Analytics Select CommCell list and analyze the clients that you added to those groups across all of your CommCell environments.
