CommCell Properties (Activity Control)

Use this dialog box to enable or disable activities such as data management, data recovery or all operations within the CommCell (regardless of the client computer from which they originate). If you want to control these operations that originate from a specific client computer or agent, use the Activity Control tab of the CommCell entity property dialog box.

All Activity

Allows you to enable or disable all CommCell operations.

Enable All Job Activity

When selected, enables all operations within the CommCell. When cleared, data management, data recovery, auxiliary copy, data aging, deduplication, Disaster Recovery backup, scheduled export media, scheduled reports, quick and full inventory (in a blind library) and Content Indexing operations are disabled.

Note: If you disable this option without disabling the Enable DDB Activity option, deduplication operations (such as backup, pruning and reconstruction jobs) will still continue to run. Therefore, we recommend to disable Enable DDB Activity first, and then the Enable All Job Activity option.

When this option is disabled, the following also takes place:

  • The Enable after a Delay button appears to the right side of this operation activity. It allows you to pre-determine the date and time at which all job activity operations should begin on the CommCell.
  • CommCell operations cannot be started, and are skipped.
  • Running and waiting operations can run to completion.
  • Operations in a pending, queued, or suspended state cannot be resumed until this option is enabled. (Job states are indicated by the Job Controller.)
  • Pending operations cannot run until this option is enabled.
  • Index restore jobs, immediate export media jobs and reports are still enabled.

Data Management and Recovery Activity

Allows you to enable or disable backup and restore operations.

Enable Data Management

When selected, backup operations are allowed in the CommCell. When cleared, backup operations are disabled, and:

  • Backup operations cannot be started and are skipped.
  • Running and waiting backup operations can run to completion.
  • Backup operations in a pending, queued, or suspended state cannot be resumed until this field is enabled. (Job states are indicated by the Job Controller.)
  • Pending backup operations cannot run until this field is enabled.

Enable Data Recovery

When selected, restore operations are allowed in the CommCell. When cleared, restore operations are disabled, and:

  • The Enable after a Delay button appears to the right side of this operation activity. It allows you to pre-determine the date and time at which restore operations should begin on the CommCell.

  • Auxiliary copy operations cannot be started and are skipped.
  • Running and waiting auxiliary copy operations can run to completion.
  • Auxiliary copy operations in a pending, queued, or suspended state cannot be resumed until this field is enabled. (Job states are indicated by the Job Controller.)
  • Pending auxiliary copy operations cannot run until this field is enabled.

Enable Data Aging

When selected, data aging operations are allowed in the CommCell. When cleared, data aging operations are disabled, and:

  • The Enable after a Delay button appears to the right side of this operation activity. It allows you to pre-determine the date and time at which data aging operations should begin on the CommCell.
  • Running data aging operations might run to completion.
  • Physical pruning of data that is marked aged is skipped.
  • None of the CommCell entities can be deleted. For example, you will not be able to delete the storage policy copies, subclients, backupsets and libraries etc.

Enable DDB Activity

When selected, deduplication database operations (which includes backup, pruning and reconstruction jobs) are allowed in the CommCell. When cleared, deduplication database operations are disabled, and:

  • The Enable after a Delay button appears to the right side of this operation activity. It allows you to pre-determine the date and time at which deduplication database operations should begin on the CommCell.

  • Pending deduplication database operations cannot run until this field is enabled.

Enable Data Verification

When selected, data verification operations on backup and archive operations.

During a data verification operation, data is checked to see that it is valid for recovering and for being successfully copied during an auxiliary copy operation. Note that the data verification is not set by default for any agents.
