Configuring Network Routes on a Cluster Group Client

When you configure the network routes in a clustered environment, the cluster group client and the physical nodes must be configured to reach the CommServe host and MediaAgents across the network.

Note: The cluster group client represents the virtual client in the CommCell environment into which the cluster's physical nodes are collected. The cluster group client may have all the physical nodes of the cluster, or only some of them. You can see which physical nodes are in a cluster group client by checking the cluster group client's Advanced Client Properties > Cluster Group Configuration > Nodes dialog box. For more information about clustering, see Cluster Configuration - Overview.

Before You Begin

  • If there is a third-party firewall between physical nodes of a cluster group client, then you must configure network routes between the physical nodes by using network topologies. See Direct Connections Using Predefined Network Topologies.
  • Determine which of the following methods to use for configuring network routes on a cluster group client:
    • Preferred Method. Configure network routes on client group that contains the target cluster group client.
    • If all of the nodes (physical and cluster group client) within the cluster have the same network route configuration, you can create a client group and add the nodes to it, then configure the network route settings on the group, rather than on each physical node.
    • Alternative Method. Configure network routes on physical nodes in target cluster group client.

Procedure

Preferred Method: Configure network routes on a client group that contains the target cluster group client.

If all of the nodes (physical and cluster group client) within the cluster have the same network configuration, you can create a client computer group, add the nodes to it, and then configure the network settings on the client group, rather than on each physical node.

  1. From the CommCell Browser, create a client computer group and add the nodes to it.
  2. Expand Client Computer Groups, and then right-click the client_computer_group  > Properties.
  3. Click Network.
  4. On the Network Route Configuration tab, select Configure Network Route Settings.
  5. Configure the network settings required by selecting options as described in Configuring Network Routes.
  6. Under Client Computer Groups, right-click the client_computer_group , and then click All Tasks > Push Network Configuration. This will push the network configuration for all of the nodes within the client computer group.

Alternative Method: Configure network routes on physical nodes in target cluster group client

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers, and then right-click the cluster_group_client  > Properties.
  2. Click Network.
  3. On the Network Route Configuration tab, select Configure Network Route Settings.
  4. Configure the network settings required by selecting options as described in Configuring Network Routes.
  5. Repeat the above steps on each physical node in the cluster group client.
  6. Under Client Computers, right-click the cluster group client, and then click All Tasks > Push Network Configuration. This will push the network configuration for all of the physical nodes within the cluster group.
