Creating Spare Mount Paths

You can create spare mount paths using the Spare Disk Library and Mount Path Provisioning Workflow. Using this workflow, you can also create a spare disk library and then add spare mount paths to the spare disk library. You can also create multiple mount paths by importing the mount path information from a text file.

Before You Begin

  • Download the Spare Disk Library and Mount Path Provisioning Workflow from the Commvault Store by following the instructions in Download Workflows from Commvault Store.
  • To create multiple spare mount paths, you can create a text file with the mount path information. When the workflow executes, it uses the information in the text file. In the text file, enter the details of the spare mount paths in the following format, with each mount path on a new line. A comma (,) is used as a delimiter here, but you can use any other delimiter.

    <mount-path-location>,<base-folder-name>,<device-name>,<username>,<password>,<MediaAgent1>,< MediaAgent2>
    <mount-path-location>,<base-folder-name>,<device-name>,<username>,<password>,<MediaAgent1>,< MediaAgent2>

The following example shows how to enter the details of a spare mount path in the text file:

    \\demo-server\F$\demopath1,baseFolder1,device1,cvuser,passWord!2,MA1,MA2
    \\demo-server\F$\demopath2,baseFolder2,device2,cvuser,passWord!2,MA1,MA2

Notes:

  • If you don’t want the workflow to create one of the spare mount paths in the text file, you can comment that mount path out by adding $$ to the beginning of the line. Refer to the following example. In this example, the workflow will not create the \\demo-server\F$\demopath3 mount path.

    \\demo-server\F$\demopath1,baseFolder1,device1,cvuser,passWord!2,MA1,MA2

    \\demo-server\F$\demopath2,baseFolder2,device2,cvuser,passWord!2,MA1,MA2

    $$\\demo-server\F$\demopath3,baseFolder3,device3,cvuser,passWord!2,MA1,MA2

  • When the Spare Disk Library and Mount Path Provisioning Workflow executes, you must select a MediaAgent. If you specify MediaAgents in the text file and then select a different MediaAgent when the workflow executes, then the mount path is configured on both the MediaAgents in the text file and the MediaAgent that you select when the workflow executes.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, go to Workflows.
  2. Right-click Spare Disk Library and Mount Path Provisioning Workflow, and then click All Tasks > Deploy to deploy the workflow.
  3. Right-click Spare Disk Library and Mount Path Provisioning Workflow again, and then click All Tasks > Execute to run the workflow.

The Spare Disk Library and Mount Path Provisioning Workflow Options dialog box is displayed.

  4. In Run workflow on, select the MediaAgent to run the workflow on.
  5. Select one of the following options and then click OK..
    • Create Spare Disk Library - Select this option if a spare disk library is not yet created or to create a new spare disk library.
    • Add Spare Mount path to existing Spare Disk Library - Select this option to add spare mount paths to a spare disk library that was already created using this workflow. Select this option only if at least one spare disk library is already created using this workflow.
  6. If you selected Create Spare Disk Library, enter the following information in the Create new Spare Disk Library dialog box that appears, and then click OK.
    • Spare Disk Library Name: Enter the name for the new spare disk library.
    • Media Agents: Select one or more MediaAgents on which the library needs to be configured.
    • Add Spare Mount Paths: Select one of the following options:
      • Import spare mount path details from file: Select this option to import the spare mount path details from a text file, as described in the preceding Before You Begin section.
      • Manually enter Spare mount path details: Select this option to manually enter the information..
  7. If you selected Add Spare Mount path to existing Spare Disk Library in step 5, enter the following information in the Add Spare Mount paths to Spare Disk Library dialog box that appears, and then click OK.
    • Spare Disk Library: Select a spare disk library that was created using this workflow.
    • Media Agents: Select one or more MediaAgents on which the library needs to be configured.
    • Add Spare Mount Paths: Select one of the options – Import spare mount path details from file or Manually enter Spare mount path details.
  8. If you selected Manually enter Spare mount path details in step 6 or 7 above, enter the following information in the Add Spare Mount Path dialog box that appears. and then click OK.
    • User Name: Enter the user name to access the mount paths.
    • Password and Verify Password: Enter the password for the above user name.
    • Spare Mount Path: Enter the mount path location. For example, \\demo-server\F$\demopath.
    • Base Folder Name: To use a base folder different from the default folder, enter the base folder name.
    • Device Name: To use a device different from the default device, enter the device name.
  9. If you select Import spare mount path details from file in step 6 or 7 above, enter the following information in the Adding Spare Mount Paths dialog box that appears, and then click OK.
    • Import File: Browse to and select the text file that contains the spare mount path information, as described in the preceding Before You Begin section.
